Rising to the Health Challenges of Our Times With Herbal Medicine
Sunday, March 2nd, 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM
Tantallon Public Library

Our health cannot be separated from the earth that nourishes us. The growing epidemic of chronic illness is deeply entwined with a disconnected culture, degradation of the earth and societal inequalities.

Many are embracing herbal medicine as a path to empowered healthcare that connects us with our own bodies, each other, and the natural rhythms of the earth.

As an interested or aspiring herbalist, how do you really become competent and of service to yourself, family and community given the health challenges we face? Whether you are new to herbal medicine, or you are wondering what is the next step to improve your knowledge and skill, this workshop is for you.

The times we live in deeply need the skills, intention, and heart that herbalists can offer. Come join experienced clinical herbalists Ember Peters and Oren Hercz in a class to fuel your inspiration and help guide you on your herbal path!

You can learn more about Ember and Oren by visiting the Maritime School of Holistic Herbalism.

This event is free and open to the public. Donations are greatly appreciated. We welcome new volunteers to help with events like this one. Please contact us at info@transitionbay.ca for more information.

Nova Scotia Environmental News

  • Premier Tim Houston unveils push for more natural resource development in Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston is turning his government's focus toward local natural resource development as fears grow about the possible impacts on provincial revenues from potential U.S. tariffs, slowing population growth and any changes in federal transfer payments.

That shifting focus could include re-examining long-standing bans in Nova Scotia, including on uranium mining, fracking for natural gas and the moratorium on oil and gas exploration on the lucrative fishing grounds of Georges Bank.

  • N.S. premier clarifies his government stands by Georges Bank moratorium

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston says his government will respect the oil and gas development moratorium for Georges Bank and he's blaming unnamed special interest groups looking to "promote falsehoods" for a misunderstanding of his position on the matter.

The premier made the comments in a letter he sent fishing industry representatives several days after saying his government would be open to revisiting the decades-old development moratorium around the valuable and productive fishing grounds.

  • New funding will help Saint Mary's researchers update database of right whale DNA

Researchers at Saint Mary's University in Halifax have acquired funding that will help them update a DNA database for the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale.

Researchers have used DNA samples to track North Atlantic right whale populations since the late 1980s. Those samples have been collected into a database, which is used to identify individual right whales without relying on sight alone.

This is especially useful for scientists who want to know family trees or identify blubber drifting around the ocean or washed ashore.

  • Federal minister signs off on province's Boat Harbour cleanup plan

The Nova Scotia government has a green light from Ottawa for its $425-million plan to remediate Boat Harbour, but it comes with a long list of conditions that includes continuing to look for another site to store contaminated sludge in the long term.

Federal Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault issued his decision last Friday following an environmental assessment by the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada, work that began almost six years ago for the cleanup of the body of water near Pictou Landing First Nation that for decades received effluent from the Northern Pulp mill.

  • N.S. strikes deals with six wind farms to meet energy needs of big consumers

The Nova Scotia government says six new wind farms will add 625 megawatts of renewable energy to the grid by 2028 and be a major stride toward meeting the goal of sourcing 80 per cent of electricity from renewables by 2030.

"We're putting wind to work as a made-in-Nova Scotia solution for clean electricity," said provincial Energy Minister Trevor Boudreau at a news conference in Halifax.

Boudreau's department announced Monday it has selected six projects from three separate companies through a procurement program called Green Choice.
