Description

The Water Caucus is a group of individuals and representatives from organizations with an interest in water-related issues, including those relating to water quality monitoring, river and watershed health, wetlands, environmental racism, citizen science, education, habitat restoration, aquatic invasive species and water governance at all scales.

The Water Caucus and Steering Committee Co-Chairs are passionate people who understand the importance of networking and creating opportunities for community engagement about water issues. They also seek out partnerships and foster collaboration around these issues.

Volunteer Co-Chair(s), share responsibilities and tasks described below:

Potential Duties

  • Facilitate quarterly meetings for the Water Caucus, featuring dozens of water-focused professionals and volunteers from across Nova Scotia.
  • Facilitate bi-monthly (every two months) meetings for the caucus steering committee, featuring 6-10 steering committee members who lead the Water Caucus.
  • Ensure all participants have opportunities to contribute.
  • Finalize and circulate meeting agendas and meeting links.
  •  Send meeting reminders and calendar invitations.
  • Coordinate with the other Co-Chair(s) to alternate responsibilities.
  • Help track action items and ongoing projects between meetings.

 

Skills Preferred

  • Strong communication and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace (Docs, Drive, Calendar) and virtual meeting platforms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate regularly with fellow volunteers.
  • Interest in water stewardship, environmental issues, and community engagement.

Virtually (electronically) within Nova Scotia


Time Commitment

  • Attend quarterly 1.5 hour Water Caucus meetings (Fall, Winter, and Spring).
  • Attend 1 hour Steering Committee meetings every two months.
  • Approximately 1–3 hours of preparation and follow-up work per meeting, including agenda development, meeting facilitation, and communications.
  • Responsibilities are shared among Co-Chairs, allowing tasks to be rotated so that no one person is responsible for every meeting.
