Summary

Since the founding of the Canadian Environmental Network in 1977, regional environmental networks have served to build connections and collaborations between environmental non-profit organizations within provinces and across the country. The Nova Scotia Environmental Network (NSEN) was founded in 1991 and is still active as an interconnecting body for Nova Scotia's environmental non-profit community and the public at large.

Recognizing the value of collaborative environmental work and its vital role in addressing global ecological crises, the NSEN team recently produced a historical documentary film which explores the past, present, and future of the Network's activities in Nova Scotia. By sharing this story free of charge, we hope to educate the public and inspire broader participation in the Network during these critical times for our planet.

The film features interviews with 10 individuals who have helped shape NSEN since its founding:

  • Sheila Cole
  • Howard Epstein
  • Meinhard Doelle
  • Veronica Sherwood
  • Tamara Lorincz
  • Janelle Frail
  • Karen McKendry
  • Joanne Light
  • Sterling Belliveau
  • Chris White

We would like to thank the Halifax Regional Municipality Community Grants program for supporting this project.

We would also like to acknowledge and thank the late Meinhard Doelle (1964-2022) for his many years of environmental leadership, for his role in building NSEN in the 1990s, and for his contributions to this film project.
