Eco-Evenings - Day 2

Description

Green Jobs for Youth: Challenges and Opportunities
7:00 - 8:30 PM ADT  October 6, 2021 (online via Zoom)

Green jobs are essential for our sustainable future, but today's youth often find it challenging to break into any job market. This session will help youth to better understand what defines a "green job" and what opportunities are available, along with the speaker's own story of her unconventional path into the environmental sector.

Speaker:

Sabrina Guzman Skotnitsky is a climate justice advocate, researcher, and youth consultant residing on the unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Honours in International Development Studies with a Minor in Political Science from Dalhousie University. As a bisexual woman with mixed Mexican and European descent, intersectionality is an important focus in her research, work and advocacy. Her advocacy work includes campaigns for fossil fuel divestment, a Canadian Green New Deal, and most recently a just and green recovery from COVID-19.

Sabrina is passionate about reducing the barriers young people face to entering the environmental field, especially BIPOC youth, youth from remote/rural communities, newcomers, and youth with disabilities. She is the author of the report Build Back Better: Expanding Green Jobs for Youth Post-Pandemic, with which she is advocating for more inclusive and diverse federal green job programs for young people.
